You entered my life with the charms of a saint
You awoke within me the knowledge of danger
I grew to love you in spite of your faults
Your neglect, your innocence, and your anger.

I thought we’d forever carry on.

To me you were the sun God
The ruler of the sea
Within your walls you lived as a recluse to all,
All that was but me.

I thought we’d forever carry on.

In your eyes I was your sanity
The enchantress of your life
Your opinions of me were an honor,
Though the truth still cuts like a knife.

I thought we’d forever carry on.

At this point our beauty changed
You withdrew from me once again
Alas this time nothing could reach you,
And your facades were all that remained.

I thought we’d forever carry on.

Your pride remained the joker
In these dangerous games you played
I would die of a broken heart
If by your side I stayed.

I thought we’d forever carry on.

So, the choice of company was yours
My life or your addiction
I saw the ruins long before the storm crashed
I’ve since learned to accept your rejection.

I thought we’d forever carry on.

Yet here I am alone
We’ve long since said good-bye
I have yet to believe it all
I often wonder why.

I thought we’d forever carry on.

In spite of our hurtful words,
We’ve managed to remain friends
I still feel hope as you do too
That nothing truly ends.

I know we’ll forever carry on.
